Great Escapes

Grant was on to something today when he climbed up a tree for some quiet reading time. Don’t we all wish we could do that (and not have our sanity questioned)!       It was that perfect combination of sunshine, with a little Fall chill in the air.   I so wished I could climb up there right along with him.   Ahhh the freedom of childhood.

As much as I would like to escape up a tree, I have found a few things that are a bit more …accessible.  I would like to introduce you to my iPhone “God & Mom” app section:

There are endless apps out there, but I’ve found some wonderful “quiet time” with these.   It’s how I start my day, and a good variety of devotions, prayers, scripture and overall connecting with the Lord.   I’ll quickly just highlight a few of my favorites. I highly recommend the “3 Min. Retreat” for anyone on the go.  It’s amazing what a few minutes of deep breathing, and zeroing in on God can do.    The “Our Daily Bread” app is a total classic, and this is one  Gabe really enjoys on his Kindle too.  The “You Version” Bible app is a must-have for Christians!   I love the audio option it comes with.   I just plug it in my van and I’m able to listen to scripture on my way to work.  Not to mention all of the translations it comes with, and it’s f-r-e-e. Most of these apps are free actually, or maybe a 99-cent charge at most.  A big thanks to my friend Christina for telling me about the Laudate app.  OH MY!   It’s my necessary, can’t-start-the-morning-without-it Liturgy app.   My fav. are the meditations from Regnum Christi.   Lauds is part of the Diving Office, Liturgy of the Hours prayer.  It is a traditional Monastic recitation of prayer several times a day (this is the morning Office). Lauds costs a bit more, at $3.99.   As you can see, the lion’s share of my prayer time comes in the morning.   It’s my sustenance of the day, my strength and my help.   It’s so nice to have different options, and little things like the JPII or Divine Mercy novenas are also beautiful holy escapes as well.  So much in one little category!

Do you have a favorite app for your walk with God?  I would love to hear what gem (s) you’ve found.   God bless you today.
